Will artificial intelligence destroy our economy, or usher in an age of unimaginable abundance? The honest answer is that nobody knows. What we do know is that the transition has already begun.

Every week brings new announcements: another company restructuring, another workforce "optimization," another set of roles deemed redundant in the face of automation. These stories appear briefly in the news cycle, then vanish. The cumulative weight of these changes goes unmeasured, the human toll uncounted.

Daily AI Toll exists to bear witness. We aggregate publicly reported displacement events, verify them where possible, and maintain a running record of the jobs affected. No editorializing, no predictions, no advocacy. Just the numbers, updated daily, presented plainly.

Perhaps this data will prove useful to policymakers, researchers, or historians trying to understand this moment. Perhaps it will simply serve as a memorial to a particular kind of work, and the people who did it. Either way, the accounting seems worth doing.

The future remains unwritten. We intend to document it as it unfolds.
